Volunteer

Today 95 million people, one third of the nation, have housing problems and Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing decent, affordable homes for those in need. You can change this by joining us as a volunteer.

We are looking for enthusiastic people to donate their expertise to various projects during our Build schedule. Opportunities for volunteers at Big Bend Habitat for Humanity range from assisting our construction crew with work on Habitat builds to Administrative assignments to assisting with program operations. While some opportunities are great for gaining experience in a nonprofit setting, others draw on the expertise of seasoned professionals or retirees who have specific skills to donate.  We welcome and appreciate all volunteers.  We encourage all interested volunteers to visit www.hfhvolunteerinsurance.com to find out what can be expected on the Habitat build sites and on-site safety procedures.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY STATUS-- Please be aware that Big Bend Habitat for Humanity receives hundreds of requests for volunteer service on our build sites.  Because we have so many volunteers for our building activities we can only accomodate as many of these requests as we have opportunities to fill.  As an alternative, we welcome volunteers to help with administrative functions at our office and our Warehouse Sales. This can consist of general office duties, cleaning, grounds maintenance, sales, inventory, customer service, etc.  If you are interested in this type of volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Juanita Ross at 574-2288 or juanitaross@bigbendhabitat.org.  We will keep your registration on file and contact you as additional volunteers are needed.  Please be patient as we try to accomodate all registered volunteers.  An email update will be sent to you every six to eight weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the typical volunteer assignment like?
Volunteer opportunities range from one day to six months to a lifetime. Some opportunities require specific knowledge or skills related to the assignment. One of the more popular opportunities is working alongside our skilled construction staff in building new homes for future Habitat homeowners.
  2. What can you tell me about volunteering at BBHH?
Business Casual is expected for administrative based volunteers. Operation or reconstruction volunteers need to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. A willingness to share in the community activities is just as important as the skills and abilities you bring to your assignment.
  3. Who can apply for these opportunities?
Anyone who is 18 or older, a citizen of the United States or Canada, can apply for a volunteer opportunity with Big Bend Habitat for Humanity.

EMAIL Volunteer Coordinator, Juanita Ross, your contact information if you would like to volunteer.
